Hullo.

Hullllo. (my somber, less cheery "Hello", done in Winnie-the-Pooh's Eeyore style)

My day was slow and completely unproductive. No question. I have been dealing with a stomach thing since last night. I think it's gone now though but now I'm "sore", do you know what I mean? ::sigh::

Let's move on to other things for now and come back to that later...(shall we?)

Last night's HP6 was absolutely fantastico. We got to the theater after having dinner at Long Horn's (I had my usual, chicken fingers and a baked potato, I know, I know, I'm boring. You don't need to tell me, I know this already!). The theater wasn't as packed as I'd imagined but it turns out that while we were standing in line, the woman taking tickets informs us that everyone can go into the theater and sit down. This was at 11p I think or maybe just after that, but we definitely had an hour to wait in the theater. That was fine since I didn't want to stand out in the entryway with all the crazy, loud teenagers. lol So, we get into the theater and sit, Missy manages to get us great seats all together, that was wonderful. We patiently pass the time by chatting and eating the candy that we smuggled in from Walmart across the street. (Yes yes, we're cheaters! I do not buy the candy at the theater. First of all, don't you judge me, and second of all, they don't have the gummy bears I like --you know, the one's in the gold bag that are the best!?--yeah those. and thirdly, they're expensive to buy at the theater and you get nothing!) So we had some of our favorite candies ready and just waited. and waited. and waited. and waited.

After an hour of waiting we finally got excited when the movie began and boy, I have to tell you, it was awesome. If you've never read any of the books, you might not care that some of the story lines have been shortened, but seriously, you must go see it. If you haven't seen the other five movies, then you're going to need to rent them. They're all absolutely delightful.

If you're one of these people who thinks that seeing HP movies is wrong or immoral, then you're going to need to take a lot of other things out of your life as well. A while back, our son went to see Transformers (number one) and there were some really disturbing lines in that movie, not to mention sexual undertones that made me angry to be in a movie geared towards kids. I mean, who plays with "transformers" anyway? Children do, so it stands to reason that children would be the first to want to see this movie. Right? Yeah, so my son goes to see it and I was NOT happy with some words and they had nothing to do with cursing. Sexual things that were NOT important and completely unnecessary for this movie. Annoying. Even our beloved Iron Man movie had some not-so-thrilling sexual scenes that didn't need to be in there. I don't get it really, why they need to cause our kids to age in that way before it's time. Makes no sense, there's other ways to make a dollar and I'd rather give my money to a good Harry Potter, witchcraft-filled movie any ol' day of the week.

Think about it, you have all the Disney movies that are filled with potion brewing and spell-casting but simply because they're colorized and cartooned, we feel they're "acceptable" and "okay to watch" (which they are, don't misunderstand here). But because the HP movies are more "real" and "life like", we feel they're something we shouldn't expose our children to? Yeah, I don't agree with that.

After reading and re-reading the books, listening to them on CD and owning all the movies, I am of the firm belief that they are some of the best and well-made movies there are for kids. They seek truth, rely on friendship, love and selflessness, they are your Good wins out over evil story and cause children of all ages (and adults, for that matter) to want to know more about Harry, Ron and Hermione, that they wind up picking up a book and reading one for the first time in who-knows-how-long. But aside from that, the books have an awesome storyline and will forever be one of the great "classics" among children's literature. Even some of my most Southern Baptist of friends are now reading them and LOVE them.

We are close with our kids. They talk to us about stuff and we do a lot together. One of our big things are books. Natalie is now on her first HP book and is LOVING IT. She came into my room the other day and said, "that's not like the movie! I had no idea that happened!" (some of the things in the book are not in the movie...hello! the book is always better!!) Anyway, we sat and talked about it for a while and I loved that interaction with my daughter, who isn't always as open as the others with her feelings so this is a wonderful way for us to tap into her inner-most thoughts. :) We did this same thing with Nathaniel when he entered the fourth grade, got him into books and we would read things together.

I digress.

The movie was totally awesome and I'm thrilled that we went together, but I have to say that the next time we'll probably wait and see it in the day time cuz this ol' gal is really too old for this nonsense. I got to sleep at 4 in the morning. Yeesh. That's just wrong folks. lol I'm not cut out for it anymore. lol Natalie and Nathaniel stayed up and never fell asleep in the movie, not even once and same goes for Ryan, however Missy took a two-minute nap at one point...just before Harry put his hand into the water and a hand came OUT of the water and grabbed him. She woke up right at that moment to a lot of screaming (I screamed, not too loudly though...can you do that? Scream Quietly?). We had an awesome time!

My kids slept until 12:23p. lol

Jeff just informed me that Nathaniel got up at 1:24 and Natalie an hour later. lol Not sure how I got the time wrong above.

Well, I better go. I'm tired and it's already 11:24p. Yikes!

I'll be back tomorrow. :)

Laurie, I have to agree with you about HP movies. They really do show the values that you were speaking of, and they are my favorite movies as well. I never read the books, because I like to be surprised but as you say the books are slightly different anyway. After the drama last night with me trying to get to my "turn" to see the movie - my daughter ended up seeing it twice in a row! She loved it! It was such a great movie!

Oh, and we smuggle in candy too (and juice boxes!). I agree, theatre candy just isnt the same as Walmart! :)

It amazes me that people really have nothing better to do with their time than rant and rave about fictional characters. I've been a Christian all my life and I've also read nothing but Sci-Fi and Fantasy since I first picked up "The Hobbit" at the age of 8 (I'm now 44) and it hasn't hurt my faith a bit. In fact, being exposed to different viewpoints and using the imagination (that God gave me, btw) I think has only enhanced my faith. Frankly, if someone's faith is so weak as to be threated by childrens' stories - they have bigger problems than Harry Potter! Glad you enjoyed the movie - I can't wait to see it!
