Happy Independence Day!

When we were first married we lived in Washington, D.C. alittle over four years. It was a great place to live (but I do not miss the traffic) and my dearest friend Carie (you know, the one with five kiddos!) lives there...it was wonderful to be so close to her too. But after a few years we wanted to return closer to home and ended up planting ourselves in Versailles, KY.... and we've been here ever since. This Summer will be ten years in The Bluegrass. Time flies.

One of my favorite memories while in DC was watching the fireworks from The Mall. The orchestra played and there were thousands of people everywhere, enjoying the booming sparkling sounds along with us. In all these years I've never experienced anything quite like it, and it's a dream to take my kids back during this holiday (maybe when Deanie is in middle school) I SO loved it. Celebrating the 4th in our small town isn't quite the same but we still enjoy being together and watching the bright lights with our kids and watching them cover their ears when the sounds get too loud. :)

May you have a wonderful family day. We will! We plan to go get some sparklers and take the kids to see fireworks at our rec center (the whole town will be there) and bring along a cooler or two of food and drinks. It'll be grand. See you there!

You know, I live a tiny bit over an hour from DC but have never done the fireworks there! It must be my hatred of traffic -- I used to be a sales rep and had to fight DC and NOVA traffic ALL the time.
